Tuesday 9/26

Monday and Tuesday 9/25-26: Rock-placing work proceeded. There is a good rhythm to this job now. They long since scrapped the idea of dumping rocks down the slope by the stairs with a dump truck; the tractor ferries a few tons of rock at a time from the road to the excavator. He backs all the way down our driveway and onto the job site. He's always working in a cloud of dust, and he just has to have a serious kink in his neck at day's end.

The excavator is extending the work road to the north -- away from the house. It spends part of its time digging, part placing rocks, and part waiting for the tractor to bring more rocks. It also ferries people and equipment. The final picture above shows what is an E-ticket ride for sure. He's pinning the filter fabric down to the slope, so when rocks are placed in the trench below it won't pull the fabric out of place.

The first two pictures above show how the job stands at the end of Tuesday. The lower section of the wall is more than half done. Wednesday might be the last day they have to work in the streambed. The second picture shows what remains of Mary's garden. The last picture shows an interesting piece of flotsam from the streambed. This came out of somebody's house. If we didn't build this wall, this is the way our house would have ended up.

Forward to next day
