18 Sept: Day 1 - fish rescue

Each picture is a link to a larger version

Nets were placed across the stream above and below the work site, then the fish were removed by two people with dip nets and an electrofishing apparatus (the operator must be certified by the Dept of Fish and Game). The shock is 100v-300v and of brief duration. It lightly stuns the fish for a few seconds, enough to permit capture.

The operation took all day. They took about 80 fish - about half steelhead and half freshwater sculpin, as in the last two pictures, plus a lamprey, a sucker, and a frog (not red-legged). The fish were measured, counted for a report to the Dept of Fish and Game, and released downstream.

Forward to next day
